Tool Guide

Compare documents, code snippets, and copy edits

Text Diff Checker compares pasted text or loaded text files line by line, then highlights changed words inside each modified line. Use a GitHub-style side-by-side diff, ignore whitespace, ignore case, compact change-only view, and unified diff patch download for release notes, meeting notes, translations, configuration files, code snippets, contracts, and copy review.

Useful For

  • Compare draft and final copy
  • Review config, code, or log line changes
  • Ignore whitespace or case while checking edits
  • Check translation, legal, and product copy edits
  • Save the comparison as a patch file

Good To Know

Custom text and loaded file contents are not included in shared links. Shareable example links store only the selected sample name and comparison options.

Result Check

Try an example first to understand the input flow. Before submitting, sharing, or copying important output, compare the result with the original source once more.

How It Works

Inputs are calculated or converted in the browser whenever possible. Compare important results with the original source before using them. Reviewed on Jul 8, 2026.

Review text differences clearly

Prepare

  • Put the original text on the left and the revised text on the right
  • Decide whether whitespace, case, and compact view should matter
  • Before file comparison, check a few short lines to catch encoding problems

Review

  • Check removed, added, and changed lines in order
  • Use compact view to scan long documents around changed lines
  • For translations, terms, or legal copy, use word highlights because one word can matter

Before sharing

  • Remove sensitive content before copying or sharing
  • Compare once more with the source before final edits
  • Check the notice that custom pasted text is not stored in shared links

Code review

  • For config files, README updates, and release notes, try ignore-whitespace first
  • Compare exported patches with real git diff before applying them
  • Separate generated-file noise and line-ending changes from meaningful edits

Document work

  • Keep dated original and revised versions for announcements, contracts, and meeting notes
  • Before publishing, use compact view to make sure no important edit was missed
  • For legally important documents, review the source text directly as well as the diff
Can I compare text side by side like GitHub?

Yes. Original and revised text are shown side by side so line additions, deletions, and changes are easy to scan. Changed words inside modified lines are highlighted for document, copy, and code review.

When should I ignore whitespace or case?

Use ignore whitespace when formatting, indentation, or line spacing changed but the wording should be compared. Use ignore case when uppercase and lowercase differences should not count as real edits.

Is pasted text included in share links?

Custom pasted text and loaded file contents are not stored in shared URLs. Share links are designed to keep only the selected example and comparison options.
